Strep
Wee One got off the bus yesterday afternoon and told me she had a headache and a sore throat. She added she had been to the nurse’s office and was told she had a hundred degree fever.
Without fussing, I asked why she did not have the office call me so I could pick her up. She responded: “Well, I had stuff to do.”
The “stuff” she was referring to was benchmark exams. This week is finals week in the middle and high schools. In elementary, they call them benchmarks.
She is tough.
Again, I did not scold her because a) she was fine yesterday morning; b) she probably picked it up at school; c) she was already contagious before she ever felt bad; and d) I did not knowingly send her to school ill.
At eight o’clock sharp I was on the phone with the pediatrician’s office. We scored a 9:20 appointment. After I told Wee One, she showed up at my bedroom door with a pillow and blanket in one hand and a little zippered pouch in the other. The pouch contained the thermoscan (thermometer), Motrin, Jr., Cepacol sore throat lozenges, chapstick, and a bottle of water.
God love that planning gene.
A rapid strep test confirmed the diagnosis and Keflex for the next ten days it is.
Right now she is not feeling very well at all. As soon as the Motrin wears off her fever spikes back up to almost 103 degrees and she has chills.
At the moment, she is laid out on the sofa watching Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, reruns.

I wonder how long before they isolate that planning gene.
Hope Wee feels better soon and no one else (in your family) catches it.

Oh dear! I hope the whole family doesn’t come down with it. Big hugs and good thoughts for you guys. ((Hugs….from a distance!))

Tell Wee One we hope she feels better soon; these things tend to ’share’ quite easily it seems.

Give her a kiss from me. Hope she feels better soon.

Go to the drug store and get some lactinex or lactaid. Without getting graphic Keflex has some side effects that those supplements will prevent. This is the voice of experience talkiing.

Hope the worst of it is over by now!
